'Bluer Than Blue' singer Michael Johnson dies
Michael Johnson, a mellow-voiced crooner and guitarist who found success on both the pop and country charts through songs like “Bluer Than Blue” and “Give Me Wings,” has died at age 72.
Johnson died July 25, 2017, at his home in Minneapolis, according to Rolling Stone.
Born in Colorado and raised in Denver, Johnson studied classical guitar in Spain under Andres Segovia in the ‘60s.

Johnson released three commercially unsuccessful albums before 1978’s “The Michael Johnson Album.” That disc featured “Bluer Than Blue,” which showcased Johnson’s sweet vocals, which recalled James Taylor's warm style.
The song reached No. 12 on the pop charts and went to No. 1 on the adult contemporary listings.
He enjoyed subsequent pop success with “This Night Won’t Last Forever” and “Almost Like Being in Love,” but his popularity tapered off in the early ‘80s.
